Biography


Seyyed Mojtaba Nourmofidi was born into a clergy family in 1344 (AH) in Qom city. His paternal ancestors were of genuine and clergy families, and also from among the renowned and highly respected Sadat(Descendants of the Prophet p.b.u.h) in Gorgan city. His father, Ayatollah Seyyed Kazem Nourmofidi, was a famous scholar and from among Imam Khomeini(May Allah Bless Him)’s famous students and followers and has had active presence in Iran’s Islamic Revolution right from its first days. He is the Supreme Leader’s representative in Gorgan province and also Gorgan’s Friday congregational prayer leader. His mother, late Ayatollah Lankarani(M.A.B.H)’s daughter and the sister of Ayatollah Fazel Lankarani (M.A.B.H), the Shiit’s great Marja(source of emulation), is a virtuous lady who runs many religious meetings.

Seyyed Mojtaba Nourmofidi completed the elementary and part of his secondary education in the holy city of Qom. The end of this period, which was coincided with the peak of Iran’s Moslem people’s rise against the then king’s cruel regime, served as a pretext for him to have active presence in social and political activities. Although he was twelve at that time, he started to distribute Imam Khomeini’s written statements among students and invite them to fight against the regime, and so he practically entered the (movement) scene. Accordingly, he was summoned and threatened by the school principal several times. He was one the few people who took part in the public gatherings held to stand against the king’s hireling commandos. After the victory of the Islamic revolution, he continued his secondary education in Gorgan city and went to the battle field right with the outbreak of the imposed war(between Iraq and Iran). Then, he got his diploma in physics and mathematics in 1362(AH) and went to the battle field again for a longer period of time. Later in 1362(AH), being encouraged by his father and his honorable uncle, grand Ayatollah Fazel Lankarani (M.A.B.T) who were aware of his considerable talent, and due to his interest in studying Islamic sciences, he entered Qom Seminary(Hawza). After finishing preliminary and advanced levels under the supervision of Seminary great scholars such as Ayatollahs Rasti kashani, Taheri khoram Abadi, Moslehi Araki, Mousavi Tehrani …, he started Dars Kharij (advanced-Independent studies). He has participated in Darse Karijes of Usul (principles of jurisprudence) and Fiqh(jurisprudence) for years and has had the blessing of being taught by great experts and distinguished Islamic scholars such as Ayatollahs Fazel Lankarani, Vahid Khorasani, Mirza Javad Tabrizi, Shobeiri Zanjani, … . Besides Fiqh and Usul, he took some preliminary lessons in philosophy and then he attended Ayatollah Javadi Amoli’s lectures on Asfar and also he has continually attended Ayatollah Javadi Amoli’s lectures on Tafsir(Quran exegesis). He has been teaching right from the beginning of his studies, that is, he would teach whatever he had learned to some seminary students from the very year he entered the seminary. However, he has officially been teaching in the seminary and he is teaching advanced and Kharij lessons at present.

He has also written numerous treatises in Persian and Arabic in the field of ​jurisprudence and its principles. His published book, " Almnat Fi Bolugh Al Fataah", includes detailed and argumentative jurisprudential discussions on girls' puberty. He is one of the members of the board of directors of the Saint Imams’(pbut) jurisprudence center. It is a specialized jurisprudence center which is under the supervision of Ayatollah Muhammad Fazel Lankarani and is considered an important seminary center of Islamic jurisprudence in the field of jurisprudential education and research. Besides teaching at the seminary, he has also been teaching at university for many years. In addition to studying and teaching at both seminary and university, he has done various activities in Golestan province and has been the source of valuable servi ces there. Mir Damad cultural institution is among the centers which has initiated a variety of scientific and cultural activities in that region, and is directed by Mr. Sayyed Mujtaba Nour Mofidi. Further, he presides over the board of trustees of Al-Zahra seminary school which is a successful women's seminary school in the country. He also manages the policy making Council of the Imam Khomeini seminary school in Gorgan, which is among the distinguished schools.
